Rottie watercolor

I decided since I had to get this painting done and posted to Ebay right away that I would attempt to paint it outside while I had the kennel doggies out to play in the yard.
It was a nice sunny morning that later turned into pouring rain, typical of Pacific NW weather in June so I was glad I got out early.
I am really working on changing my painting style a bit and am concentrating on painting shapes more than detail.
I think this one shows that and for once I am happy with how it turned out.
Maybe it was painting outside on a gorgeous morning that did it. I will have to do that again!

New Cooper resincast

This one is a resincast by Resins by Randy sculpted by Sue Sifton. I painted him my usual way of painting a pinto which is to airbrush the coat color on first then add the white pinto markings. It takes forever to get the markings on because you have to do them with very watery color or the white paint doesn't go on smooth. There are probably at least four hours into this one just on the white markings.
He was painted for Deb Buckler, Resins by Randy.

New Buster resincast

I have been working on sculptures this week although this one was completed about a month ago. This is the Buster resincast from Resins by Randy sculpted by Yvonne Davey. I painted this one with a new technique with my airbrush. Normally I do all the pinto markings by hand but with this one I did a lot of the roaning with the airbrush and only a small amount by hand. He was fun and is now sold.

Buddy ~ Silky Terrier

I have been so busy this week. I have extra dogs in the kennel and also a kitty so it means more time away from painting. I have to let the cat out for exercise in the kennel building and then I have to let the dogs out in the big yard so it takes a lot of my time since I do this at least twice a day.
It is enjoyable though when I get a cutie like this in to stay. This is Buddy.

Well, another day another painting. One of my Ebay horse groups chose "spots" for this weeks challenge so this is what I came up with. It looks a bit more like illustrative art because I thought it would suit this composition.
This one is going on Ebay for auction.

Jax and Oreo portrait

I have this mostly finished now. I may go back and tweak a little here and there but not much.
The owners will be here tomorrow to pick up these two little cuties so I hope they like the portrait.

I worked on this a little more today but my heart really wasn't in it. I guess I have been painting too much and need a day or two off. Yeah, like that's gonna happen!
Anyway, the poor little girl on the right looks a bit like a scared monkey because her eyes aren't finished but this is a WIP so I will try to get past that.

Jax and Oreo

I haven't had much chance to work on this because I have been working on a sculpture so this is as far as I have gotten. I still need to put some white gouache on the little fly away hairs on Jax and of course I have barely started Oreo.
Tomorrow I paint with a group of friends at our local art gallery so maybe I can get more done then.

This is going to be a busy weekend for me. I had these two little doggies arrive on Thursday to spend the weekend. The brown one is my min pin Tazzi.
Then today here came this cutie, Sammy the pug. They were all having so much fun chasing around the yard.

And this one is Sammy and Oreo.

I did get a little painting done on a portrait of Oreo and Jax for their owner.
Here is the work in progress.

Morning Glory

There are wild morning glory growning all over my yard, well all over the neighborhood, to the point of being an obnoxious weed but since one of my watercolor groups made the morning glory one of our monthly projects, I did a painting from one of the photos I had taken last year. They really are very pretty and graceful if only they wouldn't wind themselves up every post and fence available and then some!
This is done on 140lb Fabriano Artistico paper. Size is about 8 X 10.

This is the final version of this painting. There were times when I thought I would just quit working on it because I felt it just wasn't going right and I am still not sure if I am excited about it but this is it.
Watercolor on Fabriano Artistico 140# paper.

Chinese crested dog, watercolor

I was supposed to post a painting of a Chinese Crested on Ebay today for an animal group that I belong to and hadn't even touched it so I got busy and painted this in about an hour. It didn't turn out as well as if I had spent more time but I think it is OK. I love this breed! I know many folks don't like them because they are essentially hairless except for the ears, top of the head, top of the tail and the feet. I think it makes them very cute!

Gypsy Vanner filly foal, Gypsy Rose

I started this one yesterday while my students were here for a watercolor lesson. I finished her up this morning. I have her framed and ready to go to the gallery to take the place of one I sold.
Now I will get back to working on the group of running horses.

Tuesdays work

Well, it's coming along. I thought I had trashed it last night but my trusty Mr. Clean sponge came to the rescue.
I am at the point now when I am going to start refining and defining things.

Breyer and resin horses

I finished repainting this darling little Breyer miniature donkey. Isn't he cute? He is for sale on Ebay right now.

This gorgeous little guy is an artist resin that I painted for the casting company, Resins by Randy.
He is about 4 inches tall. My main source of income is painting artist resins. I buy them unpainted and then paint them in realistic colors and patterns and sell usually on Ebay.
I also take orders to custom paint artist resins that folks have bought unpainted and need an artist to paint them. I paint these with an airbrush, all detail being done by hand.
I usually paint resins on a daily basis.

Another days work

I worked a bit on the background behind the left horse so I could start on his forelock and mane. Worked a bit on the other horses.
I am using masking for parts of the manes and tails but there is always a need to use white gouache for the tendrils on the hair that is flying around. I don't worry about using a non transparent watercolor as most shows these days accept that unless you are doing a show specifically for transparent watercolor.
I do a lot of negative painting in and around the hair, adding the background color so it looks as if you are looking through the hair.

A little bit more....

I worked a bit today on the next horse. You can make out the remaining horses a little.
I am anxious to get this one finished.

I was able to get a bit more done on the first horse and had to go over the pencil lines on the rest because they were too light and this is a complicated painting with all those horse legs!
More later...

New Gypsy Vanner WIP

I am starting on a new Gypsy vanner painting. Reference photo courtesy Jim Wheeler.
It is going to be five horses running towards the camera. I am sorry that the pencil drawing of the remaining horses doesn't show up.
This is a work in progress......
